Did Coleridge Translate Faust Into English?

Scholars have debated whether the poet, literary critic and philosopher Samuel Taylor Coleridge was the first to translate extracts of Goethe’s Faust into English when those extracts were published in 1821 by Boosey and Sons with the illustrations created by Moritz Retzsch. The identity of the translator remains uncertain because extracts of the play were translated into English anonymously and Coleridge offered many denials of any role on his part.
